The Order of the Phoenix (founded in the 1970s) was an organization founded by Albus Dumbledore.[1] It was intended to defend all Wizardkind and Muggles against Voldemort and his Death Eaters. The Order broke apart later in the 1970s, but re-formed in 1995 when Voldemort became a threat once again.[1]

HistoryEdit

DevelopmentEdit

The Order of the Phoenix originated when Voldemort was rising in the 1970s. Dumbledore formed the order to fight against Voldemort's increasing power.

DissolutionEdit

The Order dissolved when nearly half of their members were killed: James Potter I, Lily Evans, Fabian and Gideon Prewett, Benjy Fenwick, and Marlene McKinnon.[1] Even as the order suffered great losses, they continued to fight. Until there was almost no one left.

Re-developmentEdit

The Order got back together in 1995, under an hour after Voldemort came to power. Dumbledore sent Sirius Black (in Animagus form) to warn loyal members of the Order like Arabella Figg and Remus Lupin. Sirius wanted to do something useful, so he let the order use his old house, 12 Grimmauld Place, as their headquarters.[1] It was protected with the Fidelius Charm, with Dumbledore as the secret keeper. Harry and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger also joined the order, along with the entire Weasley family.

Battle of HogwartsEdit

Certain members of the Order served important roles during the Battle of Hogwarts. They were called by Neville Longbottom. The Order formulated a plan with the professors who led their fighters to the highest towers, while certain members of the Order led troops around the perimeter of the school. Fred and George Weasley defended Hogwarts' main entrance and secret passageways around the school. The Battle of Hogwarts resulted in the death of Nymphadora Tonks, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape, and Fred Weasley. They were all remembered, though.[2]
